As of January 2025, Borno State has 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs), each administered by an elected Executive Chairman. These chairmen were sworn in following the local government elections held on January 20, 2024, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the state .
Notably, Hajiya Inna Galadima made history by becoming the first elected female Local Government Chairman in Borno State, representing Jere LGA .

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has emphasized the importance of these chairmen residing and operating within their respective LGAs to ensure effective grassroots governance and service delivery .
