PROTOCOL, I am immensely delighted to address you on this historic occasion of the commemoration of the democracy day in Borno State. You may recall that we celebrated our democracy day every 29thof May, to mark the commencement of civilianadministration in Nigeria. However, President Muhammadu Buhari,GCFR in recognition of the cancellation of the best adjudged election in Nigeria as being free and fair when Chief Moshood Abiola with his Vice President, Amb. Baba Gana Kingibe was the election, the President decided to change the democracy day celebration to June, 12. This singular act symbolizes the entrenchment of democracy and rule of law and thus proudly repositioned Nigeria among nations that respect and govern along democratic principles inthe comity of nations. Ladies and gentlemen, Borno State cannot be left out of this all important day of restoration of civil rule which brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power and ensured the degradation of Boko Haram insurgency to the present level of defeat. Today is therefore a great day for our Republic when we celebrate the 20th anniversary of uninterrupted democratic governance and indeed 16 years of All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Borno State.Few days back, another All Progressives Congress (APC) Government was inaugurated with All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants winning in all the elections throughout the State. In view of this resounding victories over the years, on behalf of our great party and party leadership, let me extend our profound gratitude to the people of Borno State for the monumental support which I belief is informed by our democratic principle of equity, justice and accountability and the next level agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari Government. May I therefore use this opportunity to congratulate all our aspirants for the victory at the polls and our electorates, teaming members, supporters and the leadership of the Party for the wonderful performance. May I also once again use this festive day to reassure you all of our commitment to deliver dividends of democracy to all nooks and corners of the State. You may recall that in our electioneering campaign, I elaborated upon 10 pointspack agenda to consolidate upon the ongoing reconstruction and transformation programmes. Government is all about continuity and I wish to once again assure you of our pledge to build upon the solid foundation already laid to rekindle and reinvigorate all the needed efforts. Our zeal and commitment for the much desired development will be anchored on the 10 points agenda in view of the devastation by the insurgency for nearly a decade in the history of our State. With only few days of our inauguration, Government has already put in place machinery for Civilian JTF and Hunters to collaborate with the Nigerian ArmedForces to collectively fight the Boko Haram insurgents in our final efforts to bring peace to our State. As peace is central to our developmental agenda, all hands must be on deck to ensure a lasting peace for other vital components of development to continue. Through vigorous agricultural and food security prorammes, job creation, affordable and accessible health care programme, provision of potable water, education, resettlement and indeed good governance we shall achieve the desired results. To make life more comfortable and bearable to our workers and retirees, Government has also commencedthe resolution of the biometric related problem with dispatch. I therefore appeal to all citizens of Borno to give us their maximum co-operation and support to deliver more dividends of democracy to our people. Let me reiterate that this Government will not condone laziness, absenteeism and non-challant attitude to work. We must all take our work seriously if we are to achieve our goals. I therefore urge you to join hands with our administration to return peace to Borno and reposition it to its past glory. I wish to announce that Government is exploring ways and means of constructing an edifice in recognition and commemoration of our democracy day in Maiduguri. Finally, I wish to thank you all for the support so far and to solicit for your understanding of our peculiar situation and to put more efforts in our quest to meet our collective aspirations to move Borno State to the next level. Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria. Long Live Borno State. Thank you.
