Borno as the prowess of the Kan3m Borno Empire has been known for its tradition of display of adornment and horsemanship.The Dubar has a long line of history from the reign of Mai Idris Alooma of celebrating events with a display of horsemanship called Dubar where the various couriers and members of the empire or emirate dress in their colourful atires and ride on well adorned horses decorated in silver and sometimes even gold as some historians say.
His Eminence the Shehu of Borno Alh. (Dr) Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai Al-amin Elkanemi hosted His Excellency Professor Babagana Umara Zulum Mni to a colourful Dubar to commemorate and celebrate his inauguration and swearing in as The 7th Democratic Governor of Borno state and also to celebrate the Adoption of June 12th as the new official Democracy day in honour of the June 13th 1993 election which late Chief MKO Abiola and Borno’s very own Ambassador Babagana Kingibe who were affirmed the winners of the election and thus conferred with the insignia of GCFR amd GCON respectively.
The Dubar procession was led by the Shehu’s entourage consisting of key King makers and other royal courtiers, afterwards followed by that of the Waziri of Borno Alh. Yerima Mustapha Ibn Mukhtar, the District Head of Marte Alh Babashehu Mustapha Umar Elkanemi, District Head of Mafa Alh. Abba Kawu s Shehu Abubakar, District Head of Gajiram (Nganzai), Engr. Babakaka Abubakar Garbai, District Head of Magumeri Abba Fali Abubakar Garbai, District Head of Old Maiduguri Abba Umar Abubakar Garbai, District Head of Gubio Abba Aunoma Abba Rufai, District Head of Maisandari Alh. Abba Bukar, District Head of Yerwa Engr. Muhammed Abba Sanda, District Head of Guzamala Zanna Waziri Ibrahim, District Head of Mobbar Alh. Zanna Gangran Yirima Ali, District Head Zannari Kaleri Zanna Matawalli Liberty, District Head of Jere Maimusari Zanna Mohammed Maijir, District Head of Kan3mbu (Kukawa) Kachalla Mamman Kachalla, The Kaigama Of Borno/District head of Titima Kaigama Zubairu. A total of 14 district heads participated in the historic Dubar and it shall remain memorable in the hearts of the people of Borno state.
