National Security and Challenges of Contemporary Governance in focus as Governor Shettima addresses Institute of Security Studies

Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima was one of the special guests invited to address participants at a seminar with the theme: National Security and Challenges of Contemporary Governance organized by the Institute of Security Studies in Lower Usuma Dam, Bwari, Abuja.

Governor Shettima alongside the Governors of Akwa Ibom, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and that of Kano, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje were invited in addition to the lead paper that was delivered by Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission.
The seminar, which was chaired by former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Augustine Alegeh, SAN, was organized for participants of Executive Intelligence Management Course Eleven who are currently being retrained at the Institute.

In a presentation that attracted spontaneous standing ovation, Governor Kashim Shettima spoke extensively on the dangers of conspiracy theories to the nation's security.

Governor Shettima went back memory lane to cite many instances of how conspiracy theories were created since 2011 in reaction to security challenges posed by the Boko Haram in Abuja, particularly with respect to the abductions of schoolgirls in Chibok back in April, 2014 and Dapchi ‎in February, 2018.

The Governor also cited instances of how conspiracy theories have been created by some interest groups to blackmail President Muhammadu Buhari with respect to killings in Benue and part of the north Central. Governor Shettima said it was most unfair for anyone to accuse President Buhari of being in support of so called fulani herds-men suspected of being behind the killings in Benue. The Governor noted that the same criminals have been behind similar attacks in Zamfara State, fulanis form part of the indigenous population.

Governor Shettima called on Nigerians to become united in order to build the country rather than allowing ethnic and religious sentiments to divide the country. He cited that a country like India has despite having nine religions, managed to stay together and building it's economy for the benefit of more than one billion citizens.
